A Look at the Zaka International Rescue Unit

Insurance professional Wayne Jay Forman serves high-net-worth individuals and corporations as the president of DJF Global Group. Outside of his professional work, Wayne Forman supports a number of non-profit organizations, including New York-based synagogues and Zaka.

Since its founding in 1995, Zaka has served as the primary rescue and recovery volunteer organization in Israel. The organization responds to natural disasters, terrorist attacks, and man-made disasters in Israel with over 3,000 volunteers in the country.

Although Zaka primarily responds to disasters within Israel, it also maintains an international rescue unit. The specially trained unit, which is on call 24/7, consists of paramedics and search-and-rescue professionals capable of responding to mass casualty events anywhere in the world. The unit has been recognized by the United Nations as an international volunteer humanitarian organization, and has responded to events such as the 2015 Nepal earthquake, the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris, and Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines in 2013.
